Rafting on the Merced River with All OutdoorsSourced in the Yosemite Valley, the Merced River is the perfect “step-up” if you’re new to rafting and looking for the next level of challenge. Its class III-IV rapids are an ideal place to challenge your taste for higher class whitewater.

Hindered by few obstacles, and characterized by long sweeping bends, this river is like a natural roller-coaster with huge wave trains and powerful forward momentum. The location of the Merced makes it a great add-on for visitors to Yosemite, and its family-friendly rapids can typically be enjoyed by adventurous kids as young as 12.

The Merced’s river canyon is marked by oak trees, graceful Gray pines, and classic California grasses. In the spring you can also see bright displays of wildflowers: California Poppies, exotic Wild Iris, and brilliant purple Lupine. Spring trips also have higher, more challenging flows as the Sierra snowmelt rushes unhindered by dams into the Merced watershed. The river is protected by its status as a Wild and Scenic River, ensuring it will remain free-flowing into the next generation.
